How the Google Review Calculator Works

The calculator uses a simple arithmetic-average model to estimate how many additional 5-star reviews would be required to reach a target rating.

X = [N × (T - R)] ÷ (5 - T)
  • R
    Current rating
  • N
    Current number of reviews
  • T
    Target rating
  • X
    Estimated number of additional 5-star reviews

Important: This is an estimate based on the values entered. Google displays ratings rounded to one decimal place, but the value shown may vary depending on their internal updates, caching, and review processing algorithms. Review and rating updates may take time to appear publicly.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the mathematical formula used?

The formula to estimate the required 5-star reviews is: X = [N × (T - R)] ÷ (5 - T) where N is your current total reviews, R is your current rating, and T is your desired target rating.

Why is it hard to get an exact 5.0 score after getting a lower review?

Mathematically, an average can only be 5.0 if 100% of all submitted scores are 5. Even if you have thousands of five-star reviews and a single 1-star review, the true mathematical average will remain slightly below 5.0. Google may visually round ratings up for display, but this is an estimate and not an absolute guarantee.
